Impact Award · In memoriam

Menelik Shabazz

1954–2021. Awarded posthumously at our first hybrid edition, three months after his death. A founding figure of Black British cinema, whose Burning an Illusion and The Story of Lovers Rock — and the magazine and the festival he built around them — made the ground the rest of us are standing on. The first award we ever made, and the reason there is a list at all.

No awards were made. The first edition ran without a ceremony; the second was entirely online.
